Why Backorder Expired .CO.KE Domains?
.CO.KE is Kenya’s recognized commercial third-level domain. KeNIC defines third-level .KE names as two name parts before DOT KE, such as name.co.ke; the “co” label is used for companies and commercial projects. For many Kenyan users, .CO.KE still feels like the default business address.
That legacy matters for expired domains. Many established Kenyan businesses, directories, agencies and ecommerce projects were built on .CO.KE years before direct .KE became more visible. A .CO.KE domain backorder can therefore capture old backlinks, local citations and type-in trust that a brand-new registration cannot reproduce.
About .CO.KE Inside the KeNIC Namespace
KeNIC operates .KE as a structured namespace. Direct second-level names use the format name.ke. Third-level names use specialized categories: name.co.ke for companies, name.or.ke for organizations, name.go.ke for government entities, and name.ac.ke for higher education institutions.
Unlike restricted institutional extensions such as .go.ke or .ac.ke, .CO.KE is the natural commercial choice for ordinary companies, online stores, agencies, local services and publishers targeting Kenya.
.CO.KE vs Direct .KE
- .CO.KE: explicit commercial signal, familiar to Kenyan businesses and users.
- .KE: shorter, cleaner and better for modern brand-first naming.
- SEO history: many older Kenyan business domains and citation profiles sit under .CO.KE.
- Availability: a good exact-match name may be taken under .KE but still drop under .CO.KE, or the reverse.
We support both spaces: direct .ke backorders and .CO.KE backorders.
The .CO.KE Expiry & Drop Lifecycle
.CO.KE follows the .KE registry lifecycle published by KeNIC. After expiry, the domain enters a 90-day expiry phase. It is auto-suspended 14 days after expiry; from day 15 to day 90, websites and email stop working but the registrar can still renew and restore it. After day 90, the domain enters a 10-day pending delete / purge period before deletion and public release.
This is exactly why timing matters. By the time a valuable .CO.KE name reaches the final release window, multiple buyers may be watching it. Our backorder system keeps the target queued before that point.
Who Should Backorder .CO.KE Domains?
.CO.KE backorders are useful for Kenyan business names, service keywords, ecommerce categories, city/service combinations, lead-generation sites and defensive brand protection. They are especially interesting when the dropped domain has local citations or old links from Kenyan websites.
Pricing & Auction System
A .CO.KE backorder costs a flat €50. If only one user backorders the domain and we catch it, that user gets the domain at the flat fee. If several users want the same expired .CO.KE domain, a 7-day proxy bid auction determines the winner.
The .CO.KE Opportunity
For Kenyan companies, local SEO campaigns, marketplaces and domain investors, expired .CO.KE domains can be stronger than they look: the extension is longer than .KE, but the business recognition and historical footprint can make the right drop highly valuable.
