Why backorder an expired .MA domain?

.MA is Morocco's country-code domain. It gives a website an unmistakably Moroccan address and works well for local brands, French- or Arabic-language projects, tourism businesses and companies serving customers in Morocco. Short, useful names are often already registered, so an expired-domain backorder can be the most practical route to a better .MA name.

The namespace is administered by Morocco's Agence Nationale de Réglementation des Télécommunications (ANRT). Registration is handled through accredited providers under the rules published by Registre.ma.

Direct .MA and the Moroccan domain family

Direct .MA is the broadest and shortest option in the Moroccan namespace. Registre.ma also defines descriptive second-level extensions for specific uses:

  • .co.ma for commercial organizations.
  • .org.ma for organizations and associations.
  • .net.ma for internet service providers.

Those descriptions come from the registry's official extension policy. Choose the namespace that matches the holder and intended use rather than treating every .MA variant as interchangeable.

Who can register .MA domains?

The registry's registration conditions require a natural-person administrative contact who is established in Morocco. The holder must provide accurate contact information, keep it current and avoid infringing third-party rights. If you are outside Morocco, make sure the required local administrative contact and supporting details can be provided before placing a backorder.

Eligibility, documentary checks and final acceptance remain subject to ANRT rules and the registrar handling the registration. A successful catch cannot override a registry restriction.

The .MA expiry and release lifecycle

Registre.ma publishes status definitions rather than promising a fixed public drop time. Its official status guide distinguishes active, frozen, blocked, expired, terminated and deleted names.

  • Expired: the registration term has reached its end, but the name is not necessarily available.
  • Blocked or frozen: DNS operation or updates may be restricted while the registration still exists.
  • Deleted: the name is removed from the .MA zone and WHOIS, then becomes available for a new registration.

The acquisition attempt is carried out through the appropriate registrar or registry channel. Catching remains a best-effort service because the former holder may renew, the registry may delay or restrict release, and other applicants may compete for the same name.

Pricing and auctions

A .MA backorder starts at €50. If you are the only Backorders Domains customer targeting the name and we catch it, the price remains €50 before applicable taxes or registry-specific charges. If several customers placed a backorder, a 7-day proxy bid auction decides who receives the domain.

Before you place a .MA backorder

Check the proposed name against trademarks, company names and other prior rights. The registry makes the holder responsible for the choice and use of the domain. A clean generic term, a strong local service name or a memorable Moroccan brand can be useful; a name that conflicts with someone else's rights can become a liability.
