Why Backorder Expired .PE Domains?

.PE is the direct country-code top-level domain for Peru, the third-largest country in South America and home to more than 34 million people. From Lima's fast-growing fintech scene (Culqi, Yape, Ligo) to Cusco's tourism industry and the massive mining sector, Peru's digital economy is expanding rapidly — internet penetration now tops 75% and Peruvian e-commerce grew by double digits for several consecutive years.

Short .PE domains are also one of the most popular domain hack TLDs in the world: names ending in "-pe" work as complete English words across the dot — reci.pe, esca.pe, gra.pe, ro.pe, ty.pe, sto.pe, goo.pe. This makes direct .PE attractive far beyond the local Peruvian market.

Registry & History

.PE was delegated by IANA on November 25, 1991, making it one of the earliest Latin American ccTLDs. It has been managed from day one by the Red Científica Peruana (RCP), a non-profit founded in December 1991 by José Soriano, which also pioneered internet access in Peru. The public brand is Punto PE (punto.pe).

Direct second-level .PE registrations (without a required third-level category) were opened on December 8, 2007. Before that date, only third-level extensions such as .com.pe, .net.pe and .org.pe were available.

Why Direct .PE Over a Second-Level Extension?

  • Shortest option — only two characters, ideal for short URLs and brandable names.
  • Global reach — works as both a Peruvian local signal and an international domain hack.
  • Smaller pool — legacy second-level extensions hold the bulk of registrations, so the direct .PE namespace has much higher scarcity.
  • No local presence required — anyone worldwide can register.

We also provide backorder services for Peru's traditional second-level extensions: .com.pe, .net.pe and .org.pe.

Who Can Register .PE Domains?

Direct .PE is an Open Use ccTLD — there are no restrictions on who can register. Individuals and legal entities from any country are eligible, no Peruvian residency, RUC tax number or local contact required. We handle the full registration process with Punto PE on your behalf.

Note: restricted categories such as .gob.pe (government), .edu.pe (accredited educational institutions) and .mil.pe (armed forces) have their own eligibility requirements and are not handled by our backorder service.

The .PE Domain Expiry & Drop Lifecycle

Punto PE follows a fairly standard lifecycle for expired names:

  • Grace Period — ~30 days: After expiry, the original holder can still renew at standard price.
  • Redemption Period — ~30 days: Recovery is still possible with a higher redemption fee.
  • Pending Delete — ~5 days: Domain is queued for deletion.
  • Domain Drop: Roughly 65–75 days after the original expiration, the domain becomes available for re-registration.

Our automated snapback system monitors the Punto PE registry continuously and fires registration requests the instant an expired domain becomes available — a process known as drop catching or domain sniping.

Pricing & Auction System

A backorder for any .PE domain costs a flat €50. If you're the only bidder, you get the domain at that price. If multiple users want the same expired domain, a fair 7-day proxy bid auction decides the winner — you only pay just above the second-highest bid.

The .PE Opportunity

Peru's digital economy is maturing quickly. At the same time, the global appetite for short, brandable domain hacks is stronger than ever. That dual audience — Peruvian businesses looking for local authority and international brands chasing premium short URLs — makes .PE one of the most interesting ccTLDs for backorders right now.
