Backorder a .HN Domain — €50
Why Backorder Expired .HN Domains?
.HN is the country-code top-level domain for Honduras, a Central American country of roughly 10 million people with a fast-growing digital economy, a significant textile and agribusiness industry, and one of Central America's busiest ports (Puerto Cortés). Honduras sits at the crossroads of Central America and is a strategic market for any brand targeting the region.
Beyond its local market, direct .HN is also valuable as a short, brandable two-letter TLD. It's particularly interesting for names that play on the "hn" ending or that want a distinct, under-used ccTLD — while most two-letter TLDs are heavily registered, .HN still has plenty of premium inventory appearing in the drop stream.
Registry & History
.HN was first delegated in 1993 and is managed by the Red de Desarrollo Sostenible Honduras (RDS-HN), a non-profit organization established to support sustainable development and internet access in Honduras. The registry operates through nic.hn and has always had a relatively light-touch administrative model.
We also provide dedicated backorder services for the traditional Honduran second-level extensions: .com.hn and .org.hn.
Why Direct .HN?
- Two characters only — among the shortest possible domain endings.
- Open worldwide — no local presence, no local contact, no documentation required.
- Under-exploited namespace — good names still drop regularly, unlike more competitive ccTLDs.
- Modern branding — ideal for startups and international brands targeting Honduras or Central America.
Who Can Register .HN Domains?
.HN is an open registry — anyone in the world can register a .HN domain, individual or legal entity. No Honduran residency, RTN tax number or local contact is required. Registrations are typically available for a minimum of one year.
Note: the restricted category .gob.hn is reserved for Honduran government entities and is not handled by our backorder service.
The .HN Domain Expiry & Drop Lifecycle
The .HN lifecycle broadly follows this pattern:
- Grace Period — ~30 days: After expiry, the original holder can still renew at the standard price.
- Redemption Period — ~30 days: Recovery possible with an additional redemption fee.
- Pending Delete — ~5 days: The domain is queued for deletion.
- Domain Drop: Around 65 days after expiry, the domain becomes available again for public registration.
Our automated snapback system continuously monitors the RDS-HN registry and fires registration requests the instant an expired .HN domain becomes available.
Pricing & Auction System
A backorder for any .HN domain costs a flat €50. If you're the only bidder, you get the domain at that price. If multiple users want the same expired domain, a 7-day proxy bid auction determines the winner — you only pay just above the second-highest bid.
The .HN Opportunity
.HN sits in an interesting sweet spot: it's short, it's open to the world, and its namespace is small enough that quality drops still happen regularly. Whether you're building a brand in Central America, hunting for a short two-letter domain hack, or simply want a distinctive ccTLD for a side project, .HN is worth watching — and backordering.
