How Domain Backorders Work — A Complete Guide
5 Apr 2026 · 09:00
Every day, thousands of domain names expire across the world. Some of them are premium names that have been registered for years — short, brandable, keyword-rich domains that are nearly impossible to find on the open market. When they drop, the window to grab them is measured in seconds.
That's exactly what we do at Backorders Domains. We monitor expiring domains and catch them the instant they become available. Here's how the process works from start to finish.
Step 1: Place Your Backorder
Found a domain you want? Head to our backorder page and enter the domain name. You'll set a maximum bid starting at €50 — this is what you're willing to pay if others want the same domain.
Placing a backorder is free. You only pay if we successfully catch the domain for you.
Step 2: We Monitor and Catch
Once your backorder is placed, our system monitors the domain's lifecycle. Every TLD has its own expiry process — grace periods, redemption phases, and deletion timelines vary significantly. We've done the research so you don't have to:
- .IE domains take about 80 days from expiry to drop (45-day grace + 30-day redemption + 5-day pending delete)
- .SI domains go through a simple 30-day quarantine before release
- .PARIS domains follow the standard gTLD lifecycle (~75-80 days)
- .BLOG domains also follow the ICANN standard (~75 days)
- .TW domains drop much faster — roughly 33 days with no redemption period
- .PH domains have a 55-day grace period then drop immediately
- .AR domains follow NIC Argentina's own lifecycle
- .MX domains enter a 30-day redemption period before deletion
- .PE domains follow a standard ~65-day cycle managed by Punto PE
- .HN domains follow a similar ~65-day RDS-HN cycle
- .MU domains follow a ~65-day MU-NIC cycle
The moment a domain is deleted from the registry and becomes available, we submit a registration request. This happens automatically — no manual action needed on your part.
Step 3: Single Bidder or Auction
If you're the only person who placed a backorder on that domain, it's yours for €50. Simple.
But what happens when multiple people want the same domain? A 7-day proxy bid auction begins automatically. Each bidder has already set their maximum bid. The system bids on your behalf in €10 increments, up to your maximum. The winner pays just one increment above the second-highest bid — not their full maximum. You can view and participate in all active auctions on our live auctions page.
Step 4: Payment and Transfer
Once a domain is caught and assigned to you (or you've won an auction), an invoice is generated automatically. After payment, we transfer the domain to your Dynadot account using the Push system. All you need to do is provide your Dynadot Push Username.

What Makes Us Different
Most backorder services focus on mainstream TLDs like .com and .net. We specialize in niche country-code and specialty extensions that other services don't cover — .IE, .SI, .PARIS, .BLOG, .TW, .PH, .AR, .MX, .PE, .HN and .MU. If you're targeting a specific geographic market or a unique namespace, we're built for you.
Our pricing is transparent: €50 flat fee per backorder, fair proxy bid auctions, and you never pay unless we deliver. Check our terms of service for full details.
